Baby is here!

Koa James Fujimoto arrived April 4 at 9:05pm! He and mommy are doing fine. He was 7lbs 2oz and 19 inches long. I just came home to take Bay to school, now I am going back to the hospital.

Lame April Fool’s Day Prank

Apparently two disc jockeys in Indiana were playing a prank and making comments similar to, “Our hearts and prayers go out to the Mattingly (Don) family.” They were going to later say that Mattingly, who was in Japan with his wife and oldest, had nicked himself shaving, and they were concerned for him. Sounds innocent enough, right? Except that Mattingly’s two youngest sons and other family members weren’t in on the joke, and thought that something terrible had happened to him… Read the whole story on ESPN.com here. And here is the public apology by the radio station.

#1 Blog Entry Subject

I think the most popular subject for a blog post has to be a site re-design. Either the warning that the site will be re-designed, and sorry for the incovenience, or an explanation that the site has been re-designed. I sometimes wonder if anyone cares. At any rate, I have been guilty of re-designing every once in a while, and posting about it. With control over your own webpage and design, why not have some creative fun and mix it up once in a while? I often find myself finding designs that I really like, and try to incorporate some of the ideas into mine. A couple of the websites I used as inspiration are:

Antipixel – Love the background image and the little icon used for each entry.

EXP – Simple and elegant.

Vudeja – Although the new design is nice, I prefer the old 3-column design (linked) and the way the photos are presented.

Carl Sagan’s “Contact”

image

I just started reading Contact by Carl Sagan last night. I have wanted to read it ever since I saw the movie back in… hmmm… I can’t remember. 97 or 98 I guess since I think it was in Japan. Anyways, the book is awesome. I have just started, but the background on Ellie and her growing up is fascinating. Her interest in the old radio and how the Soviet missions to Venus changed her are told so well, it really kept me reading and reading until it was way too late for me to be up. I thought the movie was good, but I can tell that the book is going to add so much more.

I’ve been a big Carl Sagan fan ever since I saw Cosmos on PBS when I was a kid. That series was so awesome! I was stoked when they showed it again a year or so ago. My favorite scenes were when he is explaining the history of the universe in the time scale of a single year. And then when he sits down and slides into a black hole, that was so cool!
