Curry Curry Curry

Last night’s curry was awesome! Before I met Mariko, I used to make curry, but had no idea what I was doing. The way Mariko makes it is to cook all the veggies and meat in broth to get the perfect amount of tenderness, then shortly before serving add the curry and any other seasonings she thinks it might need. Some last minute flavor tweaks include adding worchester sauce, fruit preserves, and ketchup. We also like to have hard boiled egg with our kare-raisu. You might not be able to see it in the picture, but the main ingredients were perfect for a hearty-style curry. Beef, potatoes, carrots, onion, and mushroom. She also prepared the perfect side dish to kare-raisu, that being macaroni salad. And of course a cold beer is the beverage of choice!

Japanese Curry

Tonight is the night!!! Lots of people bag on Japanese curry, saying other curries are superior. I think that they are all different, and you cannot put one before the other. Sometimes you just *need* a certain type of curry. I know Mariko started making tonight’s curry at around noon today, so it should be perfect around dinner time. It’s actually better the day after, but oh man, I am so psyched to be having kare-raisu tonight!

Thai Curry

You know what I really love? Thai Curry. I really want to eat some now. I don’t really know what is authentic or not, but the green curry is so goood. Must be spicy.

Saccone’s Pizza

To celebrate the fact that we only ate fast-food once while Mariko and Bay were overseas, Koa and I split a whole cheese pizza from Saccone’s. It was great. When we got home, the pizza was cool enough that Koa could dig in, but I opted to put my slices in the toaster oven for a couple minutes, which made the crust crispy, the cheese melty, and the oil nice and runny. It was delicious!

Satsuki Matsuri

Today Mikey, Koa, and I went to the Satsuki Matsuri, which was held at the Zilker Botanical Gardens. There were a few live “shows’, such as a kendo demonstration, traditional dancing, and taiko drumming, but the crowd was too big for us to see much. Actually, the space was too small, and so it seemed too crowded. There were some food vendors there as well, but most were Chinese it seemed, including HongKong market and Momoko. Maiko sushi had some food there also, and it looked the best. Along with their sushi rolls, they had gyu-don, which looked great! I had already eaten, so I didn’t get to try… We did get some ice cream and snacks, but were disappointed that there wasn’t any beer! Although the matsuri wasn’t the best, it was still fun, and hanging out with Mikey and Koa was cool.

Current Game: Guild Wars

So, my normal gaming bunch has moved onto a “new” game… this time it is Guild Wars. I have had this game for several months already, and have always liked it. But I suggested it to my normal group of gaming friends, and now we are all playing. It’s got a good storyline, and you can play the main campaign solo or multiplayer. It’s got some element of MMORPG, however that is only in the cities for forming groups and also in the PvP arena. So far I have not gotten into that yet. But, it’s a lot of fun to do the main storyline with my friends. There is an expansion out (not really an expansion since it can be played standalone) that I want to get, but am resisting since we are still playing the original. What’s also nice about the game is that there is no monthly fee. 🙂

iPod Shuffle

I got a 1GB iPod Shuffle the other day because they are coming down in price and I wanted something that I could carry around that I wouldn’t have to be so careful with. It’s a wonderful compliment to my 5G iPod, which is almost the exact opposite of the shuffle. I use the 5G when I want video or when I am in a “safe”listening setting, such as in the car or lying in bed. I have been using the Shuffle when in a “hostile” listening setting, like yardwork, or when Koa is around. 🙂 It basically comes down to the size and scratchablity of the two. I can put the shuffle in any pocket and not worry about it. With the 5G, I want to protect the screen as best I can, so don’t like to take it out of it’s little bag (yes, I keep it in a little black pouch that I found in my camera cabinet) if I am walking around. I kind of think of the Shuffle as just an extension of the earphones, it’s so unobtrusive.
