I finished Himitsu no Hanazono several days ago, and just now am finally getting around to blogging about the final episode. I apologize to my one reader. 🙂

The previous episode left us hanging as what was in Wataru’s secret room, and we find out immediately that the room is (surprise!) empty. Wataru was walking up ominously behind Kayo, and it looked like he was going to stab her or something, but of course, that was not the case. He just came up to her and explained what the secret was. It was interesting, but a little bit of a let-down as well. Most of the loose ends were tied up, but it all seemed too quick. Osamu’s efforts to woo his girl ends in failure, but it was a nice resolution as we find out that his “rival” who had the gun was not actually some Yakuza who is abusing her, but was in fact a detective who’s partner was the girl’s husband, and he was killed in the line of duty. It’s because she cannot forget her late husband that she cannot go out with Osamu. A nice clever way to resolving that little mystery.
Also, at the end of the story, Wataru proposes to Kayo, and she accepts, but this was kind of weird because they never even went out on a date or anything. I think it would have been better if he just asked her out and they were starting the formal relationship. Maybe they were, and I just missed the translation.
Anyways, I am sorry to see this dorama end. I think it could have gone on for a few more episodes, and they should have developed the love-interest side of the story a bit more. They did leave the story open for a sequel series, but I am not sure the dorama was popular enough to warrant another go.
